Licensing system workflows: existing vs. proposed
The original workflow (pictured at top) was overly complex, involving numerous branches and dependencies. The proposed improvements (bottom) simplified the process significantly.

Admin tool wireframe illustrates how administrative users look up existing site licenses.

Steck-Vaughn, a publishing imprint of Harcourt Achieve, provides an online, license-based reading instruction program called PowerUp! on the Web. PowerUp! is site-licensed to middle schools, and many of these schools were experiencing problems with the existing licensing system.
Working together with our client contact and our technical director, I documented the licensing system, identified the problem areas, and proposed a new solution that would be easy to implement within tight budget constraints. The solution addressed the client’s most immediate concerns, while also making several usability improvements within the program’s administrative site. |
