Workflow analysis and process improvement

Conceptual workflow diagram captures the various systems comprising the current workflow, highlighting areas that rely on extensive manual intervention (marked by the people icons).

UML class diagram represents key objects in the proposed system, their attributes, and their relationships to one another.

High-level use case matrix describes the essentials of what users can do in the proposed system. Use cases are grouped into larger functional blocks.

The client company, a large pizza franchise, was bogged down by a sales reporting process that relied heavily on manual intervention, an ad hoc "oral history," and, at its core, an antiquated COBOL-based application. Their IT staff needed help documenting the existing process, identifying its current weaknesses, and moving toward a streamlined, web-based workflow.
To achieve these goals, I worked onsite at the client's corporate headquarters, conducting a series of stakeholder interviews and contextual inquiries with key team members. I compiled all my findings into a comprehensive report, which I then used to inform a list of high-level use cases and an initial class diagram illustrating the objects comprising the new system. I am now working on the Design phase of the project and will be creating detailed task flows and schematics based upon the work completed to date.
